Feeling Drab in the Winter?

Don’t let the Winter Blues dull your outfit! Even if the days are shorter and the weather is freezing, I grew up in Montreal (honestly the most fashionable Canadian city in my opinion) where -20C does not stop us gals from going out bare-legged in sky high heels. Of course, a warm coat is necessary but nothing too puffy please. It’s still gotta have style and shape. I may cuddle up in some comfy sweats at home, but there’s no excuse in not trying to dress well when going out. You want to look like you’ve tried (ie. not rolled out of bed and you put on an old sweatshirt), but not so much that everything’s over the top, just a “pulled together” look.
*Tip: Always wear a belt if you want to complete any look, even if you’re wearing jeans and a T-shirt. Sometimes we’re on the run and have no time to plan our outfit, but trust me a nice belt will definitely up your game. I learned this from the men!!

In today’s outfit, I’m adding some summery elements and bright colours to an all black outfit, as well as borrowing from my work-out clothing that I often wear to the gym. You have the see-through top to emphasize the “lightness” amongst the darkness lol, and of course the hot pink bra underneath is a subdued statement piece on its own. And to keep things simple, I’m not wearing much makeup, just a bright coloured lipstick to match the bra and shoes.

Lululemon Energy Bra
Rag & Bone Skinny Waxed Jeans
Prada Black Leather Belt
Céline Large Trio Bag in Indigo
Christian Louboutin So Kate Heels

You may have noticed that my CL heels modelled above are different than those in my reveal pictures here. The reason is because I first ordered a pair in one size, which is larger, but then my usual size became available. So then I returned the first pair for which the pix were taken already, but now I’m modelling with the 2nd true fitting pair. However, I actually prefer the pattern on the first pair… My shopping life can be very complicated lol.

Anyhow, I’m ready to head out and tread through any extreme weather – just need to grab my Mackage coat! Have a safe and warm weekend for everyone in the east coast!

Being A Hobo No More!! Almost…

I’ve been traveling all over this year like a hobo with no clothes, no shoes, no bags…etc. That’s why I haven’t done much “Outfit of the Day” pix as I have no ensemble to put together! I will soon be able to settle into a new place shortly – very exciting! In the meantime, I’m somewhat close to home so I’ve come back over the last few weekends and snapped a few quick shots. I know some of you have wondered how I dress everyday, well I’m actually really conservative at work, very boring in PJs at home, but I do put some effort when I go out. I may not dress really fancy as in some of my pix, but I think it’s really important to keep one’s wardrobe up to date and always remember to have fun, spontaneity, and variety with fashion!

Lunch Outfit:

– RW&Co top
– 7 For All Mankind jeans
– Hermès clic clac bracelet
– Louis Vuitton Lodge bag
– Valentino Rockstud shoes

Even for a work-out later, it’s important to dress well! lol And I think I never mentioned this, but I used to figure-skate back in the days… Good times! Now I just roam the rink endlessly and skate for fun. There’s something about stimulating those trigeminal nerves with the cool air that is very soothing…

Out for a Skate:

– University sweatshirt
– Mondor bodysuit
– Céline Trapèze bag
– Theory silk pants
– Prada slippers

Ughhh… I still had my fiery red hair a month ago!!! I can’t believe it disappeared a week later! 🙁

Fall/Winter 2012 Shoes!

FW12 clothing has always been my favorite fashion season, including shoe collections because I love wearing boots. Whether they’re ankle, mid-calf, knee-high, or over the knee boots, I’m always in for trying them on when I go shopping. Boots are extremely versatile and you can dress them up or down. They keep your feet comfy and still look in style. Of course… with all this said, the only boots that I’m still not a fan of and will never be are Uggs… Sorry!

First for this fall before we haul out our real boots, we can always keep our feet warm in some cute flats. These slippers are a bit on the trendy side, but they’re so adorable! It’s a great transitional style from the summer sandals and ballet flats which can be a bit chilly to wear in fall. My favorite is Charlotte Olympia’s “Charlotte’s Web” slippers in red. They’re smoking hot!!! I love the crystal spider detail on one shoe – so quirky and fun. CO’s “Kitty” flats are also high sought after and have been sold out real fast every season. Miu Miu’s crystal adorned heel with crested embroidery is another fab option.

My two favorite boots this season are all accessorized in layers of fringe detailing. Christian Louboutin’s Pouliche is a great wedge boot that’s easy and fun to walk in! You won’t want to take them off! Brian Atwood finally makes a pair of shoes that catches my eye with a more cow-girl feel, but is balanced with the metallic leather heel which adds more glamour.

Lastly if you’re more of an ankle boot person, try Charlotte Olympia’s Lucinda booties. They look like killer heels but I promise that you will be blown away at how comfortable they really are! I can probably walk all day in them as the pitch is very forgiving. Try them on and you won’t regret it. Otherwise, for a more practical pair, Rick Owen’s Stivale wedge heels should always be a staple for fall and winter.

Fall/Winter Jackets, Coats, Leather, and Fur!

Fall/Winter has always been my favorite seasons in fashion. I love the richness in color, saturated hues, luxurious textures, and all that old Hollywood glamour that glimmers out from specific clothing. Not only is the look fabulous, most clothing is also extremely comfortable. Even if you’re wearing a slumpy old sweater, a gorgeous coat will instantly add so much style and sharpness. So a well tailored coat is always an essential for me.

This fall/winter, I’ve chosen a couple of my favorite coats and jackets that would surely look spectacular on anyone! All items and pictures courtesy of Net-a-Porter.

1. Leather and Fur:

Rick Owens: Robot Blistered Jacket – 3000$
This jacket has got to be my favorite! Fierce, edgy, and so “glunge” as Rick would say himself for a mix of glam and grunge styles. RO also makes various washes of leather and Blister is heavily distressed to a point where it’s almost soft like suede. Definitely the jacket of the season for the fashionista in all of us!

Aminaka Wilmont: Leather and Shearling Wrap Jacket – 3265$
This piece is directly imported from the runway this season and it’s something that I saw and loved instantly. The designer duo’s style reminds me a lot of Rick Owens’, Gareth Pugh’s, Ann Demeulemeester’s, and Haider Ackermann’s works. AW is the European “glunge” style for me, that is softer and more feminine, when compared to Rick Owens’ raw street style from his Hollywood upbringing.

2. Coats:

Burberry: Cotton Gabardine and Goathair Trench Coat – 2295$
Burberry makes really beautiful trenches and this one is of no exception! There’s that extra glam and finesse with the goathair sleeves and slight metallic sheen coming off of the aubergine body. My only suggestion is that instead of cotton, I would rather have seen this coat made of a wool base. I think cotton may be a little too thin for winter and with the sleeves which tend to be on the heavier side, perhaps a wool base would be better balanced?

Burberry: Double Breasted Wool Blend Coat – 995$
For a more practical jacket for everyday, Burberry’s wool coats are so warm and comfy. I bought mine a couple of years ago with a wool and cashmere blend and have never regretted it. It’s always my go-to coat when I need to look a little more sharp when going out!

Roland Mouret: Wool and Silk Coat – 2915$
Want a little more glam? More femininity? More sleek silhouette? This coat is perfect for the lady on the go. No need to fuss with all these buttons, just a cinch at the waist and you’re ready to go out on your date! The deeper neckline and pleating at the hips are all what RM is so well known to excel at.

3. Puffer Jackets:

Duvetica: Adhara Hooded Down Jacket – 575$
Dark purple is always one of the most beautiful colors for fall and this puffer jacket adds that extra vibrancy to dull winter days. The coat looks super soft and comfy, great for those ski trips too! You’ll be the most stylish and warm skier for sure!

Juicy Couture: Leather, Felt, and Sateen Coat – 450$
I’m not always a JC fan myself, but this is a cute coat for young adults looking for style, comfort, and practicality. I will always remember my days in the storms of Montreal and seeing this girl with a warm puffy JC coat. I was one of those keeners who regardless of all weather misfortunes still headed to school daily and never missed a single day even if I was sick to death.
There was once this icy storm where buses closed down cuz they couldn’t climb up the roads full of ice and our college with all its Anglo-pride had to be set up at the top of the hill… Of course, when I got there, I was like the only person in class, the prof wasn’t there, no teaching that day, and I looked down at my feet which were all wet cuz my cheap Sears boots weren’t truly waterproof, my hair was also drenched, jacket soaked, and I spent the next two hours in the bathroom under the hand dryer. So you see, a good quality waterproof coat is very important!

Casual Chic – White

My next outfit is going to feature a white blazer. I’m really into blazer jackets these days and a crisp, clean, and light weight one is perfect for the summer. White can be difficult to pull off, so I recommend mainly the primary colors blue, red, and yellow that look great with it. Of course, being the color that comprises of all colors of the rainbow, you can literally wear anything with it. I personally think of white as “prismatic” and like to pair it with its complement black. Avoid an all white outfit, in particular an all white suit+pants. I think it’s a very 80s retro-look that no one looks good in, not even the celebrities.

Featured item: Acne’s Tate silk-crepe blazer 640$

I’ve chosen all the items below which can be worn interchangeably from top to bottom. Remember that if your top is loose, the bottom should be tighter, so skinny jeans/pants are the way to go. Otherwise, you will risk looking frumpy all over. Another pointer is that bold colors are fine to wear for everyday, but keep it modest. So a colorful top is always a good idea to start. Then balance colored pieces with neutral tones.

^All items available through Net-à-Porter

La Petite S***** – silk crepe de Chine top 890$
This top would look great if you have a small chest or have a boy-ish figure. The pleating adds the illusion of curves and softens the overall look. Not only so, it’ll look great with any of the 3 pants below!

Kain – Campbell silk and linen blend top 180$
Yellow is always a refreshing color for spring/summer. It’s a bold color, so keep the overall design simple. Just a little pop of this color will liven up the entire outfit.

Day Birger et Mikkelson – Day Camille embellished satin top 200$
I like embellishments around the collar of any top because they help to bring the eye upward, which is great for shorter girls like me. They’re also great for those with a small chest. Remember to always wash these delicate clothing inside out. This is the only piece that I would not recommend wearing with the green printed pants since there’s going to be too much going on…

Helmut Lang – Asymmetric jersey top 195$
This jersey top looks comfy and cool. The green is also very wearable, and not a glaring neon color.

J Brand – 620 jeggings 180$
I’m always fond of dark-washed jeans. They make you appear taller and leaner instantly. Not only so, they can be easily dressed up with a nice top and sky-high heels. J Brand makes incredibly soft and light jeans that are suitable for wear in the summer.

Helmut Lang – Cicadae printed leggings 310$
You’ll notice that I also added a secondary color, green, because I very much like these printed pants which is a pretty huge trend for the past season. If you’re an adventurous gal with long lean legs, do look into them!

Emilio Pucci – stretch leather pants 1190$
I’m usually not a fan of leather pants, but these are so hot! Of course, I don’t think I can pull them off with my short frog legs, but if you’re tall and thin, these are going to look so fierce! I also love the side zippers that are cut at a diagonal to give the illusion of thinner hips.

Victoria Beckham – two tone leather clutch 650$
This woman is a genius in her own sense of style and started a great clothing collection with much influence from my favorite designer Roland Mouret. She continues to surprise me in her esthetics for handbag design. This clutch is simple but would look great with the rest of the outfit.

Rick Owens – leather wedge sandals 1345$
RO’s designs are always cutting edge. These cut-out sandals are low key, yet have that rocker-chic vibe. Do have nicely pedicured feet when you wear them and add a non-slip padding at the ball of the foot to prevent unsightly toe-overhang…
