Graduation Ring

I used to wear my high school grad ring all the time until 2 years ago when I lost it. It was my lucky ring and ever since it vanished, my luck has been spiraling downward. Thus, for my medical school graduation, it’s time for a new ring and a new start!

David Yurman Petit Albion Ring with 7mm Blue Topaz and 0.20 TCW Pavé Diamonds Set in Sterling Silver

I purchased this last week after half a year of contemplation. I initially wanted the citrine color which is my birth stone color (well it’s actually a yellow topaz), but HR sold out in all of Canada. I was about to order the citrine online when I received a HR gift card which kind of shifted things around since it was a significant amount and I wouldn’t have to pay shipping or duty from the US. The blue topaz is very beautiful too and would match with my convocation outfit. So I went back to HR and was lucky enough to buy the last one available in my size.

Caught in Charlotte Olympia’s Golden Web!

Charlotte Olympia Dolly in Nero/Oro (Black Suede and Gold Leather Platform)

I went to pick up my shoes at the UPS Customer Service Center on Friday since I was traveling a couple of days earlier and couldn’t be home for delivery. The COD wasn’t too bad, only 83$ woohoo! I couldn’t wait to open them! The shoes are MAGNIFICENT! I’m impressed by the overall quality which is definitely better in comparison to CL’s classics in the same price range (eg. VP, Ron Ron, Decollete, Pigalle). Just the intricate scallop detailing on the insole which is sewn on rather than glued, already gives CO a lot more points. The suede is fluffy and feels ever so slightly thicker than CL’s. Lastly, the level of comfort far exceeds that of CL’s with the same heel height! You won’t believe it but these are the same heel height as CL’s 150 shoes and after the first day with my Mad Marta, I’m embarrassed to admit that I could NOT walk in them. I was so depressed thinking that I can’t do 150s when I’ve always been so ambitious thinking that I can conquer *any* heel height lol. CO’s Dolly renews my hope! They’re so comfortable, like a pair of CL Ron Ron 100!!! The shoes fit TTS and I can’t wait to buy more! 😀

Heel height comparison pix between CL and CO:

– Like I said, the height is exactly the same – 140 external and 150 internal (true height), but CL’s is very difficult and uncomfortable to walk in because of an extremely narrow toe-box and super steep pitch – like going en pointe back in my ballet days, I was literally hopping on my toes for 3 hours last time I wore them. CO’s Dolly is super comfy like a pair of CL Ron Ron 100 for me! I can’t praise enough of CO’s shoe engineering team!

Pretty Dresses for Summer!

1. DSQUARED2 SS09 Black Crepe Chain/Wood Halter Evening Dress

– This must be the tightest dress I’ve ever put on! It was such a struggle, even more so than my Hervé Léger dresses, but WOW the effect of it is pretty amazing… lol I’m even having second thoughts on maybe wearing this to the grad ball, instead of my Sue Wong coral strapless dress. hmmmm…..

Ref: Louboutin Décolzep in black kid leather. Funny story, I was doing grocery shopping a couple of days ago and a woman ran up squealing and asked to touch these shoes lol. She was sweet. And yes, I shop and do everything in heels, including house chores. When else would I have time to wear my heels?!?! lol 🙂

2. Mark & James by Badgley Mischka Chocolate Maxi Dress

– So my mom knows the designers from Badgley Mischka, which is why I avoid this brand like the plague, especially considering that my mom swears they’ll be making my future wedding dress which freaks me out… Anyhow, I got this from a great sale on Yoox, plus I’m really into the boho look these days 🙂

3. Ali Ro Feather-Print Jersey Dress

– Super comfy dress that actually lets me breathe lol

4. H&M SS11 Floral Print Maxi Skirt

– I love it! People stare at me in this dress though… I dunno why…

5. Black/Pink Floral 50’s Style Dress with Black Glitter Side-Tulle

– This is one of my favorite dresses that I got last year in Shanghai. It’s really beautiful and I love how it reminds me of the late 40’s, early 50’s style with full skirts like Christian Dior’s post-war classics.
Ref: Charlotte Olympia Dolly in black suede heels which goes perfectly with this retro-glamor dress. I also lined my eyes old-Hollywood style to complete the look 😀
Normally I don’t have time in the morning to do my eyes properly, but now that I have time this summer, I line my eyes daily. Try Lancôme’s Artliner – I swear by it! I’m wearing Brown, and I also like Smoke and Ice Black. I don’t wear Black though in the daytime, it’s too harsh and makes me look angry like I’m about to kill someone lol

I’m Moving!!!

OMG, soooo much has happened in the past few days! I’m exhausted! I’ve been flying around doing some apartment shopping and settled on a BEAUTIFUL luxury condo for rent. I signed the contract immediately after viewing it since it’s hard to come by something that fulfills all my requirements and in fact the listing just came on last week according to my real-estate agent. I’m so happy and excited to move in soon!

I was actually really depressed in the morning after having seen several apartments that were just disgusting, old, smelly…etc. OMG, I was so relieved to have my agent finally show me more appropriate listings. Apparently, most buildings were constructed in the 70s, that’s why so few are up-to-par. My place is a huge two-story apartment about 1200 square feet, located in the heart of downtown, with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the the 2nd floor, and the kitchen, dining/living room, and balcony  are on the first floor – everything in new hardwood floor. It’s pet-friendly, in a high-rise building overlooking the city and water (16th and 17th floor), with 24 hr staff/security on call, has a dishwasher, stove, fridge, air-conditionning, all facilities included (heat, water, electricity), and extra amenities in the building (swimming pool, gym, sauna, pool/billiard/game room, party room, laundry, and pharmacy downstairs)!!! EVERYTHING’s exactly what I asked for if not more! 😀 I can’t wait to move in and turn the spare bedroom into a walk-in closet to store all my bags and shoes! I’ve been waiting to do this ever since I got inspired by some fabulous tPF members who turned their boring rooms into truly magnificent display rooms.

I had a fantastic trip, it was quick and I got everything on my agenda accomplished. Here are some pix of the river taken from the Hilton hotel where I was staying, beautiful eh? Sorry, can’t say where this is since it’s the internet… I’ll just say that on the other side of the river is USA, my new destination for shopping and partying q weekend haha I’m definitely going on cruise control now, never will I work that hard again! Med school aged me by 20 years, so my personal goal for residency is to relive life like my high school days! 😀

Charlotte’s Web of Shoes

Who’s read Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White? Just about every kid right? Didn’t you love it?!?! Cuz I sure did!

One of my favorite books has evolved into a shoe line allowing me to continue fantasizing my childhood dreams. Ever since 2 years ago when I laid eyes on this new designer’s signature emblem, which is a golden web casted on the soles of every shoe, she’s marked a place in my heart. The designer says it perfectly in that there’s a certain nostalgic feel to her shoes. Only until recently, did she open her website for international buyers. I love the “girliness” of her designs as well as the fun, quirky attitude that she has!

Charlotte Olympia is without a doubt one of the most highly sought after upcoming new designers and this marks my new unhealthy obsession for her shoes 😀

I was desperately searching far and wide for her shoes, but of the few upscale boutiques that carried some limited styles, they were all sold out in my size. I stalked her website and at last, my effort and persistence finally proved to be worthwhile as I saw the new inventory being restocked yesterday. I was able to grab a pair of the infamous Dolly in black suede in my size. Even while I was doing so, several pairs were already sold out within a few hours, and another pair in red suede that I wanted to purchase was also snatched from my basket! I originally planned on getting two pairs since I’m paying an exorbitant amount for shipping – 100 GBP?!?!? That’s about 160$ CAD! Anyhow, maybe it’s best to just buy one pair first and see how the sizing fits me.

I’ve been doing more research on this brand and I found an interview with the designer which you can read about here at Sandra’s Closet. There’s also an exclusive video featuring Portia Freeman on Style.com that shows CO’s Fall 2011 collection. The video is fantastic, I highly recommend watching it, but if you’re at work or can’t access it, well lucky for you, I’ve snapped some pix of them here lol. Please click pix below to enlarge.
