Yoox Summer Steal 80% Off from MRP-1295$

Giuseppe Zanotti Daddy Saragein Over-The-Knee Boots in Pebbled Black Calf Leather

I always like to buy items opposite of the current season that we’re in to get major discounts. Yoox has fabulous sale prices for a lot of designer items that have been left over from previous seasons. They recently started their summer sale and I was lucky enough to have gotten an extra 10% off code. Not only so, no extra duties or sales tax for Canadians as they’re already inclusive in the sale prices. Of course, given that they’re deeply discounted, sometimes the items from Yoox are not perfect, eg. tags missing, original box, dustbag, or other packaging material may not be included. Nonetheless, the item itself is usually in perfect condition.

I’ve been looking for a pair of OTK boots for the last year, but nothing really satisfied me until I saw these Giuseppe boots. I wanted flat boots with a small heel, non-suede, all leather lined, no fancy embellishments, studs, or other junk design. So when I saw these boots in the only size left over, they were perfect I thought to myself! The boot design itself is Giuseppe‘s well known Daddy style which has been made into various textures and materials over the years. This OTK version is just fabulous with 100% leather construction – sumptuous pebbled leather on the outside, lined completely in smooth calfskin on the inside, and finished with a leather sole.

Modeling Picture:

My only issue with these boots is that I need to have the shaft shortened a bit. I do think they’re a bit high for my liking.

Casual Chic – White

My next outfit is going to feature a white blazer. I’m really into blazer jackets these days and a crisp, clean, and light weight one is perfect for the summer. White can be difficult to pull off, so I recommend mainly the primary colors blue, red, and yellow that look great with it. Of course, being the color that comprises of all colors of the rainbow, you can literally wear anything with it. I personally think of white as “prismatic” and like to pair it with its complement black. Avoid an all white outfit, in particular an all white suit+pants. I think it’s a very 80s retro-look that no one looks good in, not even the celebrities.

Featured item: Acne’s Tate silk-crepe blazer 640$

I’ve chosen all the items below which can be worn interchangeably from top to bottom. Remember that if your top is loose, the bottom should be tighter, so skinny jeans/pants are the way to go. Otherwise, you will risk looking frumpy all over. Another pointer is that bold colors are fine to wear for everyday, but keep it modest. So a colorful top is always a good idea to start. Then balance colored pieces with neutral tones.

^All items available through Net-à-Porter

La Petite S***** – silk crepe de Chine top 890$
This top would look great if you have a small chest or have a boy-ish figure. The pleating adds the illusion of curves and softens the overall look. Not only so, it’ll look great with any of the 3 pants below!

Kain – Campbell silk and linen blend top 180$
Yellow is always a refreshing color for spring/summer. It’s a bold color, so keep the overall design simple. Just a little pop of this color will liven up the entire outfit.

Day Birger et Mikkelson – Day Camille embellished satin top 200$
I like embellishments around the collar of any top because they help to bring the eye upward, which is great for shorter girls like me. They’re also great for those with a small chest. Remember to always wash these delicate clothing inside out. This is the only piece that I would not recommend wearing with the green printed pants since there’s going to be too much going on…

Helmut Lang – Asymmetric jersey top 195$
This jersey top looks comfy and cool. The green is also very wearable, and not a glaring neon color.

J Brand – 620 jeggings 180$
I’m always fond of dark-washed jeans. They make you appear taller and leaner instantly. Not only so, they can be easily dressed up with a nice top and sky-high heels. J Brand makes incredibly soft and light jeans that are suitable for wear in the summer.

Helmut Lang – Cicadae printed leggings 310$
You’ll notice that I also added a secondary color, green, because I very much like these printed pants which is a pretty huge trend for the past season. If you’re an adventurous gal with long lean legs, do look into them!

Emilio Pucci – stretch leather pants 1190$
I’m usually not a fan of leather pants, but these are so hot! Of course, I don’t think I can pull them off with my short frog legs, but if you’re tall and thin, these are going to look so fierce! I also love the side zippers that are cut at a diagonal to give the illusion of thinner hips.

Victoria Beckham – two tone leather clutch 650$
This woman is a genius in her own sense of style and started a great clothing collection with much influence from my favorite designer Roland Mouret. She continues to surprise me in her esthetics for handbag design. This clutch is simple but would look great with the rest of the outfit.

Rick Owens – leather wedge sandals 1345$
RO’s designs are always cutting edge. These cut-out sandals are low key, yet have that rocker-chic vibe. Do have nicely pedicured feet when you wear them and add a non-slip padding at the ball of the foot to prevent unsightly toe-overhang…

Dressy Work Outfit – Gray

This will be my new series of “Outfit of the Day” with various plays on colors and textures to make the perfect outfit! I will be featuring clothing and accessory items that will be suitable for work, dates, special events, everyday casual attire, or anything to be desired. Feel free to make comments or write to me for what you would like to see or have questions on what to wear.

My first post of the series will be what to wear to work. I do consider myself conservative in my everyday life, although it may not appear to be so on my blog, but I work in a very professional environment. A lot of physicians are extremely busy that they forget to “take care of themselves” (trust me, there are docs out there who don’t shower for days, don’t brush their teeth for 2 days, wear the same clothing for days…etc). I think it’s important to dress appropriately to work. You may not need to wear designer clothing, but being clean is essential.

My professional wardrobe is mainly of neutral tones: black, gray, and white. I’m not so much into navy and brown. I find it hard to match clothing with these colors and they tend to make me appear old… Anyhow, the following outfits are what I have pulled together for a dressier, yet still conservative attire, that is appropriate for work especially on a Friday for me or if you know you will be going out for an event after work. The center piece that I’ve decided to focus on today is a gray skirt. There are a lot of colors that go well with gray – blue, yellow, purple, green, and pink (latter not pictured). I want to show everyone that being conservative is far from looking boring or drab!!!

Featured items all available through Net-à-Porter

Jonathan Saunders – Doris Wool and Cotton-Blend Jacquard Skirt 720$
I chose this skirt because it’s got a mod-twist to the average gray work skirt. I like the small diamond pattern which doesn’t overwhelm one’s frame, yet adds a little extra something to liven the mood. The hemline is also slightly higher which is great for petite gals like me (I do not recommend this skirt on taller women though as this will look like a mini-skirt and thus not appropriate for work). Since the skirt has a wonderful pattern already, it’s a good idea to keep the top relatively simple. You’ll see that I play with various textures below which is always great for a chic look!

Faith Connexion – Metallic Chiffon Shirt 360$
Tuck this gorgeous semi-sheer blouse under the skirt for that easy breezy look to transition from summer to fall. The delicate nature of chiffon balances out the thicker wool skirt beautifully. The shimmery fabric is also very pretty and will catch the sunset rays as you head out for a couple of drinks with friends downtown after work!

Equipment – Silk Crepe de Chine shirt 210$
This shirt is similar to the navy blouse in that it’s also sheer which is a popular trend this summer. Bold bright colors are also in and this particular sunny yellow is sure to bring a bright smile to anyone’s Friday afternoon! The light fabric also helps to balance out the heavier wool textured skirt.

Etro – Silk Wrap Top 580$
Being a Rick Owens fan, I love this fuschia-purple top that is so reminiscent of RO’s work. RO tends to go with dark, gray, somber colors, but this top has the summery-ness that I crave! The pleating, silk fabric, and V-neck speak to my style and is sure to be super comfy! Do watch out for if you have large breasts… I generally don’t recommend cleavage at work…

Jonathon Saunders – Elgar Crepe de Chine Top 625$
The solid black base works well with the skirt’s pattern. Yet, a lively green vertical stripe helps to lengthen one’s figure and bring the eye on top. It’s light texture and sleeveless design is great for those very hot days. Do wear a cardigan or blazer on top in the office when the AC is blasting away.

Victoria Beckham – Victoria Mini Leather Work Bag 2950$
This is a gorgeous handbag for the ultra professional woman who takes command! She’s got attitude, confidence, grace, and is very business-oriented! Do not mess with a lady like this and her handbag!!! lol What I love about this piece is how big and spacious it is. The bag is fully functional and has got the perfect “doctor bag” look with a modern sleek structure. I will need this bag in the future!

Giuseppe Zanotti – Metal Heel Suede Pumps 650$
The moment I saw this heel, it was pure love! It’s got a bit of Louboutin and Prada feel, yet is so GZ in it’s ultimate style. The gold adds enough bling and the simple suede texture works well with the other items. GZ also makes super comfy shoes, so you’ll have no problems wearing them at work all day.

My Ultimate Dream Dress <3 <3 <3

Roland Mouret SS12 Herbert Dress in Cream and Red Double Wool Crepe and Scalloped Plissé Finish

Usually I buy items that *I* love first and foremost, THEN if I see celebrities wearing the same thing, they help to affirm my purchase as a good choice. So I’m not so much influenced by celebrities’ attire or accessories, but when I saw the runway pix as well as on these lovely ladies in RM’s hit dress of the season, Herbert, my heart skipped a beat. Of course, I would not even think about it at full price, but with an OCPD mind of stalking sale items daily, I’ve secured the last XS size on sale possibly in the world

The dress is simply gorgeous and I do think Rhea Durham wore it the best of all the celebs! I love how RM gives the wearer the flexibility of wearing it “off shoulder” with the grosgrain ribbon in a slightly sexier version or as a normal “on shoulder” look. The material is made of thick virgin wool (which made it quite hot and sweaty for me to take pix that day lol). The skirt is wool on the inside and nylon zigzags on the outside. The dress also comes with a black grosgrain ribbon belt, which I think looks kinda cheap and flimsy, so I threw on a black patent leather bow belt instead in the modeling pix.

For reference, I’m 5’2 and the dress is on the long-ish side which I will need to alter. At first I thought of keeping it this length, since it seemed like even the celebs wear it quite low/long at the calves… Nonetheless, after a couple of recommendations from tPF members and my seamstress, I’ve decided to cut it to just below the knees. The pix below are the original, non-altered version.

Summer Ready Legs!

Summer’s here and hemlines are rising! I recently got a few questions for how I keep my legs in shape. The fact is that they’re NOT! lol I don’t do any exercise and I’m mostly standing at work. Not only so, I think my circulation is starting to weaken even in my mid-twenties that I’m beginning to develop lots of broken capillaries, which is a sign of venous congestion and swelling of my lower extremities. In the future, I’ll probably end up with unsightly varicose veins… This blog entry will be dedicated to showing you how I tone up my legs and reduce leg swelling.

First in preparation for the summer days, I start using Vichy’s Aqua Destock daily, a week prior to when I want to start wearing skirts and shorts outside. I’ve been using this Vichy product for the past couple of summers, previously in different packaging, but all basically the same product. I just bought another tube today for about 50$ + tax and I think it’s worth it. The essential ingredients are 5% Caffeine which I imagine promotes vasoconstriction and Aquacidine which Vichy states is a “microcirculation activator” (in the past this was known as Lipocidine to loosen up adipocytes. Yeah, I know it’s all hocus pocus lol, but it works well in relatively healthy young people (obviously if you have CHF, liver disease, or kidney disease with resulting peripheral edema, this product will be nil helpful).

IMPORTANT SECRETS: I prefer to use the product at night after I take a shower. The last few minutes I blast myself with a cold stream of water which helps to seal hair cuticles and improve all the congestion in my legs that swell up even more from the heat. Then I apply the gel while lying down on my back on my bed with my legs straight up in the air. Gravity will help improve blood flow from your legs back up. Then I massage the gel UPWARD from my ankles up toward my thighs. When I’m done, I sleep without crossing my legs and being horizontal will help the product work better than if you were standing upright since gravity is working against it.

So I do the above for the next couple of nights, then it’s time to do the tanning! However, no tan is good unless you have a good scrub first and I use Laura Mercier’s Almond Coconut Milk Scrub. Head back to the shower, and use whatever loofah or scrubber to dislodge all dead cells on your legs. Wait til the end of your shower session after you’ve done your other business because the heat will help to loosen up dead cells and make your hair softer to get a close shave. Scrub in a circular motion for as long as you can. Next, get a brand new razor and shave DOWN with the direction of the growth of hair, NOT against the grain! Sure you may get a close shave, but you really don’t want ingrown hair and being Asian, my hair is already quite fine making them prone to ingrowth.

The tanning job is achieved with Clarins’ Self-Tanning Milk (been using this since Lancôme discontinued their tanning milk that I loved and sold out the Flash Bronzer lotion). I apply this immediately after getting out of the shower, don’t let your legs dry up completely, cuz all the flaking and left over dead skin will become more apparent. After the first layer is smoothed on in a circular motion, I then use Lancôme’s Flash Bronzer Tinted Gel in strategic areas just on the medial and lateral sides of both legs to give the illusion of more depth or shadowing effect. I find the gel has more of a drying effect, plus it has sparkles, so that’s why I apply it after the tanning milk which is very moisturizing.

To maintain your tan and shapely legs, I continue to use Vichy’s Aqua Destock every night before bed to let gravity work in sync with the product. Every other morning, I use just LM’s Almond Coconut Scrub to gently deflake some dead cells, otherwise the exfoliating gloves or loofah will take off too much of your tan. The scrub is ultra-moisturizing too to keep your legs well hydrated. Lastly, I apply Jergen’s Natural Glow to maintain the tan and let it build up in color over the daytime. On the off days when I’m not tanning, or if I find the tan is too deep and I no longer wish to apply more self-tanner, I use Laura Mercier’s Crème de pistache whipped body cream which smells heavenly! I really love LM’s bath and body products and have tried other products from the Crème brûlée and Fresh Fig collections, which are nice, but not as amazing as the Pistachio line 😀

Other tips to keep in mind:
– Don’t stand too long, sit when you can and have your legs up.
– Do not cross your legs when sitting!
– Do point your toes repeatedly or contract your calf muscles to improve venous return.
– Do wear pressure stockings when you can! Yes, I buy those expensive tights for this purpose! (Not the same compression stockings for peripheral edema which is thick and not so pleasant looking).
– If taking a bath or shower, don’t have the water running too hot!
– A high salt diet will cause water retention! Low sodium is essential in keeping your cardiovascular system in top shape. So always eat healthy! 🙂
