Leather pants have been all the rage these past two seasons. I’m still not too sure about the fit of a lot of these pants because if the tailoring is off by even the slightest cut, you’ll end up looking as if you’re trying to do a come-back from the 80’s and 90’s… Although fashion trends do come back every few years or decades, you can always be certain that there are updates each time. And this year, make sure your leather pants are FITTED and SNUG. They should not look baggy. New technology has allowed us to invent “stretch leather” that will conform to your silhouette, rather than trying to make the wearer fit into a generic cut. The look to achieve is sleek, effortless cool with a bit of rock ‘n’ roll biker-chic!!!
Leather pants do have their downsides, nonetheless. They are difficult to clean is my number one pet peeve. You absolutely cannot put these into the washing machine. Not only so, most designer clothing can be hand-washed, but forget about even letting the smallest amount of water touch the leather as this will damage it permanently. They can only be dry-cleaned by leather professionals. Another issue is that they can get really hot… If you sweat a lot down there, I’d recommend slathering on some baby or talc powder to rid of the excess moisture and keeping your pants clean, because you’d likely want to wear these 3-5 times before taking them to the cleaner’s. Lastly certain leather pants can go out of style quickly, eg. colored and textured ones. Make sure you buy a neutral colored pair that suits your style and wardrobe to last you for years of enjoyment.
Anyhoo, here are a couple of my favorites this season:
1. Rick Owens – Stretch Lambskin Leggings 1680$
I love the beautiful detailing at the knees. These pants really reflect Rick Owens’ style that has influenced so much of our daily wear, from the frontiere of premiere fashion designs.

2. Paige Denim – Paloma Leather Leggings 299$
Apparently these pants were so popular that they were soon sold out after several celebs were seen wearing them. Then Paige Denim had decided to re-make them again in mass and in various colors. They are a great price for those who aren’t sure about wearing a full-on leather pair which can cost 1000$. Plus, the ponte knit solves both the “sweating down there” issue and allows for great fit.

If you get a pair of colored or printed leather pants, keep the top casual and simple with a solid T-shirt. Otherwise if you get black leather pants, I think they’ll look great with some printed T’s or delicate silk blouses to play with texture. Here are some of my favorites, all available through Net-a-Porter:
1. Peter Pilotto – Silk Jacquard Top 755$
2. Tibi – Metallic Lace Top 325$
3. Rag & Bone – Sara Fine-Knit Top 220$
1. Emilio Pucci – Silk Chiffon Bow Blouse 1395$
2. T by Alexander Wang – Paneled Silk Blouse 270$
3. Erdem – Cecilia Floral Silk Blouse 1140$
And because it may get cold, a blazer is a MUST! I adore this piece by YSL. Perfect tailoring, with leather lapels on wool, and they would look simply fabulous with your leather pants!!! Buy through Net-a-Porter 4490$
