Valentino SS15 Rockstud Heels 105 in Poudre/Nude Patent Leather

Valentino.SS15.Rockstuds105.pPoudre1

I couldn’t wait to try them on, so I ripped apart the parcel at work and had to take a pic! The colour is a classic, but it’s been hard for me to locate it in Europe given the exchange rate right now is not in my favour. So I’m glad that after a year of being on my wish list, I finally snagged it. I did go down half a size from my usual 36 because with my other Rockstuds, the straps have always been quite lose and stretch more with wear. However, these were incredibly tight… It’s quite frustrating because Valentino’s shoes appear to run all over the place in terms of their fit.

Some detailed pix are shown below.

This pair’s platinum studs are all fixed properly and not crooked compared to some Rockstuds that I own. I find the classics (nude and black) are always better made probably because they pay closer attention to the details since they’re the best selling ones. Quality control has been an issue in my opinion which was why I’ve been hesitant to buy more. I should mention that unlike previous seasons, this is the first time that Valentino is including replacement studs and heels!!! Again, probably because they’ve been contacted so often now for stud problems…

Modeling Pix:

I actually forgot to post this reveal of my Clover Canyon dress that I got last season. I’m usually not a CC fan cuz the fit of their clothing just doesn’t suit me well. However I fell in love with the print of this dress called “Matador de Toros.” It’s simply stunning, great for a night out and it let’s me breathe, eat, and move around comfortably. Also shown with my Bottega Veneta Knot clutch (2nd pic below).

Clover Canyon FW14 “Matador de Toros” Jersey Dress

When I got this dress last year, I was originally planning to buy the short sleeve cut-out back neoprene version, but my size was sold out. I’m actually glad I got this long sleeve version, because it’s so much more wearable. CC’s neoprene is very thick and may not be all that nice in the summer, whereas this jersey fabric is quite thick, but thinner than neoprene and actually moves with your body rather than sticking to it. I also think of it as a transitional dress for in between seasons.

Nude Comparisons:

Different brands all have their own version of the perfect nude. I tried to take the best pix I can in natural day light, but I have to say that in real life, the colours still look different than what’s depicted here.
Manolo Blahnik – MOST NATURAL for fair skinned gals. The colour looks somewhat yellow here but, it’s actually my preferred tone.
Valentino – Blue/gray undertones help to provide a bit of contrast to our natural peachy skintone.
Christian Louboutin – Very pinkish. It looks the nicest in 2D, but IRL, the pink tones are very overwhelming and not a perfect match on my skin. It’s about 2 shades darker. Good for those who have a tan or are olive skinned.

Lastly, group pic of all my Rockstuds!!! Thanks for letting me share, hope you all had a great weekend! 😀

Good Morning Spring

I’ve been really busy at work recently and finally this weekend I got a chance to relax. I’m not much of a home person, but I was pretty happy doing domestic chores today! Not to mention the weather was beautiful, a bit cold, but really bright and sunny without a cloud in sight. The morning started with my usual breakfast these days which includes a low calorie yoghurt (Source or Iogo are my favs). I add some blueberries (or raspberries sometimes) and mix a variety of organic cereal all together. Typically on weekdays, I don’t have time to drink my smoothie, and opt for my coffee, but this morning I made some fresh strawberry+raspberry+blueberry+yoghurt smoothie. The good thing about these is that I make a batch and just freeze the servings.

Boo is here too joining us for breakfast 😀

I was requested to model my Louis Vuitton Petit Soupçon Cat Eye Sunnies for someone who was looking into purchasing a pair for herself. So here it is, moi at home… Sorry I’m not really dressed to go out… but it’s the weekend! I don’t like to get too fancy if I’m not going anywhere special. So please excuse the indecent bra straps and all…

LV_PetitSoupcon2

Ok now I showered and more ready to go out (it’s like 2PM hahaha), but I forgot to put back on my Cartier Amulette necklace cuz I don’t wear it pendant que je fais la douche…
Anyhow references for outfit are:

Anzie topaz earrings
Helmut Lang moleskin coat
Cartier Love + Sapphire Ring
Hermès Clic Clac bracelet

Makeup:
Prepped skin with Lancôme Énergie de Vie Dullness Relief & Recharge Daily Lotion (discovered this yesterday and was bought into the “exclusive to Sephora” from Asia line… lol see below for details)
La Prairie Cellular Emulsion Matte Pore Minimizer Moisturizer
Hourglass Veil Foundation – No.1 Ivory (got this as a sample cuz I need a moisturizing foundation rather than my usual for oily/combo skin and it’s the 2nd lightest in the range, but still too dark on me!!!)
Chanel Double Perfection Compact Powder – Vanilla/Lumière 10
Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet – La Favorite 43
Clé de Peau – Beauté Celeste Shimmering Gloss No.2
Ciaté nail polish in Loop the Loop (couldn’t help but also take a pic of my new nails that I got done yesterday which is a new yummy buttery lemon shade)

Sephora Haul
Yesterday I was playing around at Sephora and managed to get some goodies! I wasn’t really planning on buying anything, but wanted to see if there were any new products to help soothe my skin this season, which has been really irritated, red, flakey, dry, then oily and breaking out! Ugh!!! So upsetting and impossible to control cuz of the near -40C weather where my rosacea AND eczema skin get flared up! So my makeup has been awfully difficult to apply/blend. Hopefully these products will help…

From left to right, top to bottom:
Lancôme Énergie de Vie Dullness Relief & Recharge Daily Lotion and Gel Cream – I don’t know how I feel about this… The first day I tried the lotion, I liked the “thick toner” feel almost like an extra layer of moisturization, but then I noticed a few hours later my cheeks and nose got really red and almost swollen (yeah, think “slapped cheeks” appearance which is often pathognomonic for Parvovirus lol). I tested out again the next day though to confirm if it was an adverse reaction, but then it was fine on the second application and I also added the day cream on top. So I don’t know if my skin settled on its own, or if the day cream was the one that counter-acted against the lotion. Well I just looked up the ingredient gentian extract as I’m blogging now and apparently gentiana lutea has vasodilatory effects and is an alkaloid… That explains it. Definitely not good for my rosacea. Will be return this…
Shu Uemura Anti/Oxi Refining Anti-Dullness Cleansing Oil –
Contains green tea to help calm my skin without stripping it of its natural oils. Definitely a keeper and great mini size for the gym!
Guerlain Lingerie de Peau BB Beauty Booster – My 2nd replenishment cuz I love it so much! This BB cream has stronger coverage than others, but still lighter than a foundation. I use it pretty much daily other than weekends (when I use my Chanel Les Beiges which is super sheer and light).
Original Beauty Blender – I’ve been hearing all these raves about this egg shaped sponge to help blend out makeup… I thought I’d try it cuz like I said, my skin has been a real blotchy canvas to apply foundation cuz of the horrible weather. Result? Meh… Nothing too special, other than the horrid price of $26??? Not worth it…
AmorePacific Treatment Enzyme Peel – Lovely! Contains papaya extract, green tea, and lactose to gently slough off dead skin cells and rejuvenate skin without physical abrasives, like traditional exfoliants. I still haven’t figured out the packaging which is my only gripe. It says that on first application, you flip the bottle upside down to prime the pre-filled cup inside for the perfect measurement, so that you don’t end up dumping too much. Ok… does not really work? Every time it dumps out a different amount? So I have to caution everyone to be really careful so that you don’t end up wasting the product which is really powdery and a mess to clean up. You also cannot put it back inside the bottle!
Tip:  I mix it with milk so that its natural sugars and lactose boost the actions of the product!
Ciaté Mini Nail Polishes:  Iced Frappe is a pretty lilac; Loop the Loop is shown above on me, and Pepperminty is pastel turquoise. This is my first time buying from this brand. I haven’t tried the other two colours yet, but I really liked the smoothness of the application with Loop the Loop. I typically find pastel colours to be difficult to apply cuz it emphasizes all imperfections, so I was quite impressed even while I was playing with them in-store.

Comparison of my previous tube of Guerlain BB on left and new replenishment on right. Notice the differences in labelling. I should mention that my old tube was purchased from USA, whereas the new one is from Canada. The colours are still the same though despite the slightly different names.

This pic below was from another day when I modelled my other relatively new pair of sunglasses from Louis Vuitton called Mimosa. It’s a real classy aviator style that actually works well with my face. See original reveal here.

After a weekend of domestic duties and shopping, there’s nothing like cuddling up with my little baby boy (and his new BB is Boo lol). Thanks for letting me share everyone, stay tuned for some exciting new reveals coming up soon!!!

Nordstrom’s 2nd Canadian Opening Gala

1398309726666

As Nordstrom expands to Canada, they had their opening gala last night and I was fortunate enough to have scooped up a ticket. All 1800 tickets proceed to the Cancer Foundation, so it was all for a good cause in raising awareness. Calgary was the first chosen city by the US mass retailer to be opened in Canada, with Ottawa being the second, and several more department stores to follow in all provinces, except Quebec. Montreal is certainly the fashion lead in my opinion, so it’s unfortunate that due to bureaucracy and all, there are no planned openings here. Nonetheless, I would not say that there was much to be missed out on…

As great as Nordstrom is in the USA, the same is does not apply for its Canadian counterparts. They do not carry the same brands, especially the higher end luxury designers such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dior…etc are no where to be found. Not only so, of the limited brands available such as Valentino, Jimmy Choo, and Manolo Blahnik in the shoe department, the selection is very minimal. And no, there is no Christian Louboutin! Last night, I did see Burberry and Chloé being the only two leased areas to offer a few bags and accessories. The cosmetics and skincare counters were actually more impressive with brands such as La Prairie, La Mer, Sisley, Guerlain, and Chanel all available. Overall, I was still not impressed, or perhaps my taste in designer goods these years have really exceeded my own expectations…

Event

Highlights of the night did include the DJ, I enjoyed his songs, and he got everyone dancing on the main main floor. I should mention there are 2 levels with the first featuring cosmetics, jewelry, shoes, bags, and other accessories; whereas the second floor has men’s and women’s clothing. I also liked how Nordies featured live models and once in a while they’ll step off their podium and walk around. The clothing selection was decent with contemporary brands such as Helmut Lang, Alexander Wang, Vince, Joie, and Theory all available. Denim selection was ok… I did not see J Brand, Rag & Bone, 7 For All Mankind, Citizen’s of Humanity, or Hudson’s, but I could have walked by the section too fast without noticing.

Brands

The food was good with various appetizers available throughout the store. I started off with a lobster roll (top left), then had this chicken with wasabi in a cone, and later found this neat sushi tray with seaweed salad. Obviously, it was not the greatest sushi I’ve had, but still a cute bento box idea. Then this flakey pastry with creamy corn and peas (bottom left) messed up my dress and I spent a few minutes in the bathroom trying to get rid of the stain… I did like the tomato soup with toast on top, very yummy. There was wine and all sorts of alcohol beverages, but I actually loved their water in a carton!!! What a great idea and helps with the environment too!

Food
eBar

The E Bar was probably my favourite though because I’m such a coffee fanatic and was really running low on fuel after a day’s work. It was seriously the BEST LATTE I’ve had in a very long time!!! I’m not sure if it was the espresso beans being freshly grounded or perhaps they are the only place that I have found to use my favourite almond milk from Earth’s Own, but I was in pure bliss.

My other delight of the night was finding Boo!!! For those who do not know Boo, he is a real dog, i.e. celebrity dog! He is just the most adorable thing and my friend actually encouraged me to purchase a plush toy. I suppose I was a little desperate to spend some money, as I was originally planning to make a major purchase on a designer handbag or something. I guess in the end, my wallet was happy.

Boos
Delights
Dessert

I purchased both the big Boo with the maple leaf sweater as well as the small Boo with bunny ears for Easter. I plan to give both away as gifts to my niece and friend. On my way to the cash register, this lady thought all my dessert treats were so cute and actually took a pic lol. Yes I have a weakness for sweets! They were better than the food in my opinion, especially the chocolate brownie, truffle, and cheesecake… hmmmm…

Lastly, I’m sure you’re all wondering what I was wearing to the event. The day started in my office where I prepared everything in advance. I had my latest Roland Mouret “Timarcha” dress, Chanel Reissue, and Valentino Rockstud heels all dragged into my office that’s already filled with shoes lol. People come in and my heels are usually the first thing they notice…

OfficePrep Me

And here’s me when all dressed up at Nordies. I got a lot of compliments on my dress and heels, and people wanted to take pix with me for some reason… Here’s me with another blogger who wanted to do a “shoe shot” right when I walked in the first few minutes of the gala. I realized the pantyhose was a faux pas lol, but it was really cold!!! Anyhow, I did take them off soon after this pic was taken, see bottom left corner where I took off those granny-nylons as well as in the above pic.

AQUAZZURA SS15 Sexy Thing 105 in Black Suede and Metallic Gold Heels

These heels are apparently the shoes that shot the designer brand to fame and have been spotted on numerous celebrities. Despite the new brand claiming to have launched in 2011, the shoes were actually featured a year earlier in Elle of May 2010. Every season, there’s some sort of update on the heel, use of different materials, colours, or a slight variation in design. Black and beige suede appear to be always available as part of their permanent collection, but my favourite of all the variations is actually these gold metallic heels. I’m not sure how to categorize these as it was originally offered last season FW14, but also made available now via Net-a-Porter. So they could be part of the permanent collection too perhaps? I like how the shoes are meant to be worn casually in the daytime. The gold heel adds a more glamorous touch making it suitable for evening wear as well. Not only so, there will be less signs of wear and tear, compared to the classic black suede heel.

^I actually ordered from NAP first but they were giving me a really hard time with shipping issues. Then per chance, I saw Barneys had this last pair available again from last season’s sale for 50% off, so I jumped on them as they were my size too! You snooze you lose NAP! 😛
