The New LBD and Skincare Discoveries

Elizabeth and James FW15 Otto Mesh Cut-Out Dress

I generally do not purchase much contemporary brand clothing, with the exception of jeans. However, when I saw this dress, I really liked the design, cut outs, mesh detailing, and overall updated look to a classic LBD. It’s very well fitted, maybe a little too tight… but it does have some stretch to the material. I’m still somewhat unsure if it’s showing too much skin… This is a good time for me to comment that with such a deep V cut, I’m glad to have a small chest! haha Nonetheless, I’ll probably never wear it out like most of my stuff…

Styling tip: Simplicity is key. Have 1-2 accessories, but the dress already calls for a lot of attention. So keep everything to a minimal. I would NOT wear a necklace, especially not a vertical bar necklace that drops down to your cleavage! That is too much!

Guerlain Météorites Oxygen Care Moisturizer & Radiance Booster

Two months ago, Guerlain just released two new products in the Météorites collection, which has yet to be updated over the last decade since its original release. Although I believe they were already debuted in Asia for a while. One of the new additions includes a moisturizer which is the first time being introduced in the collection. The other addition is a variant of the current Perles primer, which I have used in the past and loved it.Guerlain

When I saw the new items online in the summer, I was unclear as to what the differences were between the 3 products, and the 2 primers have very similar names… I tried to look them up but no reviews found yet. I’ll try my best to explain:
– Oxygen Moisturizer (left): Gel-like texture, good for the summer, and provides light hydration. Good for combo-oily skin. Non-silicone feel (which I hate). Barely visible light-reflecting particles in tones of pink and blue (rids of yellow sallowness and redness).
– Light-Perfecting Primer (middle): These white pearls are like the original pink ones in that they are “crushed” evenly with every pump. However, the texture and particles are completely different than the original. The product spreads smoothly, but there are LARGE WHITE SPARKLES (not mini glitter), like seriously big chunks of sparkles! Not what you’re looking for if you want a more “mature” look, but definitely prom night appropriate!
– Light-Diffusing Primer (right): Most of us have tried the original pearl primer which is a lovely non-silicone base that has tiny particles to reflect light. It makes your face have a gorgeous glow and I certainly hope that Guerlain does not discontinue this for the white pearl primer…Guerlain_MeteoriteMoisturizerGuerlain_MeteoriteMoisturizer_Swatch^Swatch of the Oxygen Moisturizer:
You can see the small light particles on the left, and after spreading it over my hand (right) there’s a sheen as shown under the sun.

Lastly, a friend recently introduced me to the Faceshop‘s masks. The company is of Korean origin and has been quite popular in Asia from my understanding. I don’t really care for their makeup or other products as they seem a bit… juvenile? However their masks have received great reviews and I always try to get a bunch when they have promotions like “Get 5 free with the purchase of 10 masks.” It contains a porous sheet that you apply onto your face for 10-15 mins and the serum left over is usually good for another 2 applications, which I use as a toner. Cost is about $2 per mask, which is not bad if you can get 2-3 uses from the product. I do also like the more expensive masks that cost $4-10 each. In particular the one in the lower right corner. My Chinese is not good… Beautiful Woman __________ ?something I had another friend and we were both like, what is that 3rd character!??!?! haha Anyhow, the last one has a jelly texture and is supposed to “lift everything up” according to the salesgirl. I don’t see my face or wrinkles being lifted, but it does feel very hydrated and plumped.

Thanks for letting me share and have a great weekend! Stay tuned for some exciting reveals next week 🙂

A Mother Daughter Day

I wanted to take my mother out recently because she has been through a lot in her life and deserves the world. She is the type of person who never asks for anything lavishing or extraordinary, and only puts her mind in the best interest of the family. Even with food, she saves the best parts for me and oftentimes waits for others to eat first before doing so herself. Of course we bicker and both of us can be a handful for my father, but we always know that deep down our love for each other is unconditional. I wanted to treat her on her birthday and cherish every moment because life really is all too short to not love the people around us.

Sometimes there are a lot of misunderstandings between friends, lovers, and family members that result in a broken relationship. Trust and love can take years to build, but they are easily fragmented by a single event. I was really touched recently by a family that came together to support each other with the passing of their loved one. We could all still see the tension in the family, despite the tranquility in the room. However there was a composure that dominated over any drama, and during these rough times we often see a reunion of families. One of the greatest things that we can help each other in life is to forgive and forget about perceived wrong doings in the past, love each other again, and learn to accept one another for our differences. We may have heard these simple words of wisdom before, but only realize their significance until it is too late because we cannot let go of our pride. So why wait until life is about to end, rather start today and take care of the people who are dearest around you?

Thanks for letting me share our special day together 🙂

Louis Vuitton FW15 Limited Edition Evasion Collection Sarah Wallet in Monogram Canvas

We first spent the day shopping and my favourite SA at LV helped us choose the wallet. Originally I was planning to get my mom a Monogram wallet with some red lining or accents to match with another one of her bags. However this LE piece had really caught her eye and I could tell that she loved the cute print as well as hot pink interior. My only concern is with the silk print which I know often rubs off with regular use… Anyhow, we still purchased it and had it hotstamped which I love to do for all my accessories for that extra touch of personalization!LV_wallet2 LV_wallet1LV_wallet3

We shopped around some more and pre-ordered a couple of other items (reveals to follow once they arrive!!!). My mother is not big into cosmetics, but I did buy a few items, including snatching up the last Yves Saint Laurent Blur Perfector compact which has been sold out all over Canada. I was passing by Sephora and could not believe my eyes that this YSL product was just sitting there on the shelf. Apparently it’s been raved about by thousands of women, and is meant to “perfect” your skintone, “blur” imperfections, and mattify as well. You can use it both under makeup or above to mattify throughout the day (which is most often recommended by users).

However, I personally find that it makes the sponge dirty when used on top of makeup and prefer to use it underneath to smooth out any blotchiness. The trick is to apply it VERY sparingly and only TAP, do not SWIPE or drag this stuff across your face! Is the packaging cute and sweet? Yes. Is it a miracle product? No. Am I impressed by the results? Meh. I’ve only used it a couple of times and now it’s thrown somewhere at the back of the bathroom counter…YSL1 YSL2

We then went to the spa together. My mother was quite happy to have met her friend there and started chattering away while I enjoyed my pedicure while overlooking the lake.Spa

Lastly, it was dinnertime with the family where we went to our usual favourite restaurant. It’s a great French restaurant that is highly praised for its creativity in stimulating the taste buds! We love how some simple ingredients mixed with some exotic seasonal items can evoke our sense of taste to a whole new level! The menu is constantly changing and we really enjoy each refreshing experience. To start, we shared the oysters and then each got our own appetizers: Tilapia fish tartare with pineapples, radish, basil, and tempura (top); Lobster with melon peanut sauce and barley (middle); Sea urchin linguini (bottom).

Main dishes:
– Guinea hen with liver mousse, leeks, kiwi, and nuts (top)
– Cod fish with clams, bacon, corn, radish, and sweet onions (bottom left)
– Scallops with pears, shiitake mushrooms, zucchini, and eggplant (bottom right)BB_Entree

– Hazelnut cake brulé with nutty cream, figs, pears, cranberries, grapes, macadamia nuts, and raspberry sorbet (top)
– Upside down peach cake with cream filling and caramel, vanilla ice cream, and papaya (middle)
– Lemon génoise fruit cake with almonds and black tea ice cream (bottom)BB_Desserts

Third Time’s the Charm?

Spikes Take I – Unfortunately I missed the boat on getting my grubby little feet into the original studded Very Privé heels when they were first released in 2009(?) and worn by countless celebrities. I was so desperate to get them later but none were available in black anymore… I’m usually not one to follow trends, but I was later relieved to have NOT purchased them as CL started to mass produce spiked heels in a not so admirable way that merged to tackiness in my opinion…Christian-Louboutin-Very-Prive-Spikes-120mm-Peep-Toe-Pumps-Black-Red-Sole-Shoes-2271

Spikes Take II – Later I did give in again about 2 years ago and pre-ordered from Saks the Pigalle Plato 120 with silver spikes, thinking that this was also a relatively easy to wear comfy style. However when I opened the box, it was NOT love at first sight… In fact, they were painful and really stiff to wear that I immediately returned them. I did feel bad for my SA who had specially ordered them from California for me…

Spikes Take III – Finally third time’s the charm… I don’t think I need any more explaining. The pictures will speak for the shoes themselves!!! I love how crazy they are!!!

I do want to comment on the prototype pic from CL’s official website of this style – notice how the blue and pink tones are the inverse of the actual product?! Another reason for why sometimes shopping in person is a better idea just in case if sometimes the actual product depicted is not what you were really hoping for, but in this I don’t really mind. It’s just one of those details that I often notice!christianlouboutin-folliesspikes-3150035_M286_1_1200x1200_1430737583

The Loudest Shoes

Sometimes a pair of shoes does not need all that jazz or bells and whistles to make them a pair of statement heels. The shape of these gorgeous heels are classically cut and the silhouette is distinctly Louboutin. However what is so striking about this pair is the fluorescent colour! The neon trend has been going on for a few summers now, and most prevalent in the young adult population, but has slowly trickled into the premier designer’s products that has become a hit with a few brands. I was quite hesitant to purchase them and from looking afar or online in pictures, they didn’t seem much of my style until I tried them on my feet – wow I was instantly sold! 😀
